Mission La Purisima Concepcion
Mission La Purisima Concepcion was founded on the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin on December 8, 1787. The present and second site is located east of the town of Lompoc, California between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. It was moved four miles east of its present location after the Santa Barbara Earthquake severely damaged the mission buildings on December 21, 1812.[2]

History Timeline[1]
- 1787 - Father Fermin Francisco de Lasuen founds the 11th mission on December 8 in honor of "The Immaculate Conception of Mary the Most Pure."
- 1812 - Destroyed by an earthquake followed by torrential rains.
- 1815 - The mission is relocated to its present site and construction begins.
- 1818 - The first building at the new site are completed three years later.
- 1834 - Secularized.
- 1845 - The Governor of Alta California sells the mission.
- 1874 - U.S. Government returns the mission to the Catholic Church but the mission is in such a poor state the Catholic church in turn resells it.
- 1935 - State of California acquires possession of the mission.
- 1941 - State of California completes the restoration of the mission.
