Mission San Miguel Arcangel

Mission San Miguel Arcangel was founded on July 25, 1797 by the Franciscan order, on a site chosen specifically due to the large number of Salinan Indians that inhabited the area, whom the Spanish priests wanted to evangelize. It is located at 775 Mission Street, San Miguel, California, in San Luis Obispo County.

The mission remains in use today, though is undergoing earthquake remediation efforts. Inside the church are murals by Esteban Munras^[2]

1797 - Father Fermin Francisco de Lasuen founds the 16th mission on July 25 in honor of Saint Michael the Archangel.
1816 - The present church is begun.
1818 - The present church is completed.
1821 - Decoration of the church is completed.
1845 - The Governor of Alta California sells the mission
1859 - The property is returned to the Catholic Church.
1901 - Renovation of the main buildings.
1928 - Additional renovation of the main buildings.
