Mission San Francisco de Asis (Mission Dolores)
Mission San Francisco de Asis is the oldest surviving structure in San Francisco and the sixth religious settlement established as part of the California chain of missions The Mission was founded on June 29, 1776 by Lieutenant Jose Joaquin Moraga and Father Francisco Palou (a companion of Father Junipero Serra), both members of the de Anza Expedition, which had been charged with bringing Spanish settlers to Alta (upper) California, and evangelizing the local Indians, the Ohlone.

- 1776 - Father Junipero Serra founds the 6th mission on June 29 in honor of the founder of the Franciscan order Father Saint Francis de Assisi.
- 1782 - Construction begins on the present church on April 25.
- 1791 - Present church is dedicated on April 3.
- 1834 - The mission is secularized.
- 1845 - The Governor of Alta California sells the mission.
- 1857 - Property is returned to the Catholic church by Presidential Proclamation.
- 1876 - Due to the population boom following the Gold Rush, the small mission chapel becomes too small to serve the parish and a larger Victorian chapel is built next door.
- 1906 - The Great Earthquake destroys the Victorian chapel but leaves the old mission chapel intact.
- 1918 - The new Mission-style parish chapel, which replaces the Victorian chapel destroyed 12 years earlier, is dedicated.
